1. Overview

Institute of Education & Skills Development (IESD) provides guidance and supporting documents for international learners who wish to attend short-term and long-term professional training programs in Lithuania.

Important Note:

IESD does not issue visas. Visa decisions are made solely by the Lithuanian Migration Department or Lithuanian embassies.


2. Types of Visa (Lithuania)

Depending on the duration of study, applicants may apply for:

a. Short-Term Visa (Schengen Visa – Type C)

• Valid up to 90 days

• Suitable for 3-month certificate programs

b. National Visa (Type D)

• Valid up to 12 months

• Suitable for 6-month and 1-year programs

c. Temporary Residence Permit (TRP)

• Required for long-term (1–2 years programs)

• Allows stay, study, and limited work (as per law)


3. Required Documents

Applicants typically need:

• Valid Passport (minimum 6 months validity)

• Completed Visa Application Form

• Admission Letter from IESD

• Proof of Accommodation in Lithuania

• Proof of Financial Means

• Travel Health Insurance (Schengen compliant)

• Passport-size photographs

• Educational certificates (basic level)


4. Financial Requirements

Applicants must show:

• Sufficient funds for:

   o Tuition fees

   o Living expenses (approx. €500–€700/month recommended)

• Bank statement / sponsor letter required


5. Accommodation Requirement

• Proof of residence in Lithuania is mandatory

• Options:

   o Student housing

   o Rental agreement

   o Invitation letter (if applicable)


6. Health Insurance

• Must cover entire stay

• Minimum coverage: €30,000 (Schengen requirement)


7. Visa Processing Time
